The old 25m pool has been completely renovated and extended with a new movable-bottom training pool. During the renovation/refurbishment, a maximum of sustainable materials, techniques and energy were used.

In May and June 2023, it is Europe in my Region, an opportunity to discover and visit the projects supported by the ERDF in Brussels-Capital Region.

The energy demand is kept to a minimum by the construction of a compact and very well insulated building, the use of a movable pool cover/bottom in the training pool, separate air-conditioning between the halls and pools, LED lighting with daylight sensor and energy-saving showers. A high-efficiency air treatment system allows energy and moisture recovery, as well as the heating energy of the rinsing water. Sustainable energy is generated by cogeneration of heat and electricity. A rinse water recovery system, which also uses rainwater, ensures that water is saved.
These sustainability measures are part of the overall sustainability vision and objectives of the VUB, the Brussels-Capital Region and the European Union.
The participation of the European Union and the Brussels-Capital Region is €2 million out of a total budget of €8 million.

The renovated pool opened on 15 February 2018.
The ERDF / CBR funding was used for the construction of the training pool and for sustainability investments.
The public is welcome at the VUB swimming pool from Monday to Friday between 12 noon and 2pm, Monday to Thursday from 5pm to 9pm, Saturday from 12 noon to 4pm and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
On 5 and 23 June between 12.00 and 14.00 as well as on 13 and 29 June between 17.00 and 21.00, a bathing cap will be offered as part of the campaign.
