FREE visit of the exhibition “The Artwork as a living system”

In May and June 2023, it is Europe in my Region, an opportunity to discover and visit the projects supported by the ERDF in Brussels-Capital Region.

EXPO ARTWORK AS A LIVING SYSTEM

In the domain of media-arts, Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau are considered as the pioneers of the “art of interface”. This French-Austrian couple draws inspiration out of systems as we find them in nature, in order to develop interactive and visually spectacular installations. Since the beginning of the nineties, they are using the most advanced techniques such as artificial intelligence, while bringing us closer to the secrets of what we call “life”.”

The expo connects a traditional subject – art and nature – with the most innovative artistic techniques employed in virtual, sentient, interactive projects. The presented works offer an intimate and tangible approach to concepts such as quantum physics, the theory of complex systems, genetics, molecular nanoscience or artificial life.

This exceptional retrospective is the result of a co-production between ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (Germany), OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH, Linz (Austria) and iMAL Brussels (Belgium).

On June 11th, come along, you will be given free entry as part of the campaign!

THE PROJECT

The Arts, Sciences, Innovative Technology and Inclusion Centre (CASTII) project aims to create a large centre with a local, regional and international dimension, focusing on digital cultures and offering those living around the canal the opportunity to learn about creativity with digital technologies. As project leader, the iMAL non-profit association wants to renovate and extend its premises and invest in equipment in order to provide a fablab to artists working in the digital sector and enable the local population to discover the digital world. A gallery space for public events is also planned, together with training sessions for the neighbourhood’s residents, in particular through the creation of a mobile fablab.  The ERDF-BCR funds cover most of the investment expenditure related to the renovation of the iMAL offices, the extension of the current fablab, the development of a mobile fablab and the purchase of equipment for the different fablabs.
