BIGH, Brussels Aquaponic farm – FREE guided tour!

In May and June 2023, it is Europe in my Region, an opportunity to discover and visit the projects supported by the ERDF in Brussels-Capital Region.

The creation of this food hall was made possible by the support of the municipality of Anderlecht, Brussels-Capital Region and Europe. The investment represents 18 million euros, with an ERDF contribution of 7.5 million euros in subsidies. The rest was financed by Abattoir and its concession holders.

The urban farm on 4,000 square meters of roof became a reality thanks to an additional 1,435,674 euros ERDF subsidy and a few necessary technical modifications.

The exceptional site of Abattoir in Anderlecht allowed BIGH to settle in the European capital, in the booming canal area. The project, which consists of 2,000 m² of greenhouses and 2,000 m² of produce gardens, has a positive impact, creates value and improves FoodMet’s performance.

How? Through a cutting-edge aquaponic system in which fish, fruits, vegetables and aromatic herbs grow in a zero-waste closed circuit. BIGH is based on the latest innovations in the field of sustainable technology: using the building’s lost energy, recycling the site’s rainwater and using renewable solar energy. BIGH responds to the challenge of sustainably cultivating fresh and local products in cities.

Registration required, send an email with your contact details and the date of the visit to events@bigh.tech
